About This Manual
067869 Tandem Computers Incorporated xi
The Pathmaker product is a screen-based application development tool that simplifies
the development of Pathway systems on Tandem NonStop computers. This manual
describes the screens you use to specify information about the application. It also
documents additional syntax and utilities available to enhance your Pathmaker usage.
These additional capabilities include a syntax-based interface to Pathmaker; a macro
language that supports your application development programming tasks; and project
installation, management, and help utilities.
Objectives of This
Manual
Given this manual, readers will be able to:
Refer to each Pathmaker screen, the fields on each screen, and the function keys
for each screen.
Refer to each command and statement for PMADL, the Pathmaker Application
Definition Language.
Refer to each command and statement for the Pathmaker macro language.
Extract information from a Pathmaker project catalog.
Use the Pathmaker utilities.
To effectively use this manual the reader must first understand the information
presented in the Introduction to Pathmaker and the Pathmaker Programming Guide.
This manual provides only enough information about other Tandem software
products (such as Pathway, NonStop SQL, and NetBatch) as is necessary to use the
Pathmaker product. For an introduction to NonStop SQL, for example, the reader will
be directed to the NonStop SQL manuals.
Audience The Pathmaker Reference Manual is primarily intended for users developing Pathmaker
applications. These readers need specific details about Pathmaker screens, utilities
and languages. However, the set of Pathmaker users can include anyone who is
involved in some aspect of designing, creating, maintaining, or installing Pathmaker
applications.
Application developers and programmers use the Pathmaker product to create
and maintain Pathway applications. They sometimes also design these
applications. They need to know the details of using the Pathmaker product to
produce and maintain a Pathway application. In addition, they may need to know
how to design an application that will be developed using the Pathmaker product.
These readers are expected to know how to program in COBOL85 and how to use
Tandem utilities such as TEDIT, FUP and PERUSE. They may or may not be
familiar with Pathway.
