5 Utilities
067869 Tandem Computers Incorporated 5–1
This section describes the three Pathmaker utilities, defined as follows:
PMINSTAL—Installs a Pathmaker system for the first time, redefines an existing
installation, moves a Pathmaker installation from one volume to another, or
purges a Pathmaker installation. To install a Pathmaker project, use the
PMINSTAL INITIAL command.
PMPROJECT—Manages Pathmaker projects. Use PMPROJECT to add, delete,
shut down, alter, move, and install Pathmaker projects.
HELPUTIL—Modifies help text for an application generated by the Pathmaker
product, or translates help text supplied by the Pathmaker product into another
language.
The section is organized as follows:
“PMINSTAL Utility” tells how to use PMINSTAL to install a Pathmaker system.
This subsection includes the complete contents of the PMDEFLT default
configuration file, which contains attribute and default values supplied by
Tandem for the Pathmaker product. The subsection also provides the syntax of
the PMINSTAL command and guidelines for using PMINSTAL.
“PMPROJECT Utility” gives the command syntax for PMPROJECT, along with
guidelines and examples for using the project management utility.
“HELPUTIL Utility” gives the command syntax for HELPUTIL, along with
guidelines and examples for using the help utility.
PMINSTAL Utility Use PMINSTAL to install the Pathmaker product, to redefine an existing installation,
to move an installation from one volume to another, or to purge a Pathmaker
installation.
You can install more than one version of the Pathmaker product on a system.
Installing multiple versions lets you create new applications with the most recent
version, and maintain existing applications in the version with which they were
developed.
Each version of the Pathmaker product consists of a set of program object files, data
files, help text files, and support programs. All Pathmaker versions are registered in
the $SYSTEM.PATHMAKR.INSTALLS file, which the Pathmaker product uses to map
versions to the subvolumes where they are installed.
Included in the Pathmaker software is the PMDEFLT file. It defines a default
configuration, which you can edit as necessary. To install a Pathmaker system:
1. Install the Pathmaker software files from the site update tape (SUT). The Install
program restores the Pathmaker files from the SUT onto the Distribution
Subvolume (DSV), then copies them to the Installation Subvolume (ISV). The ISV
is the subvolume from which PMINSTAL distributes the Pathmaker software. The
default ISV subvolume name is ZPATHMKR.
