Using PMINSTAL Here are some guidelines for using PMINSTAL:
Use INITIAL when you receive a new release of Pathmaker software.
New releases of the Pathmaker product do not automatically have access to
projects created with an earlier release. Use the PMPROJECT CONVERT command
to convert projects from one release to the next.
Use REDEFINE when you receive updates to the original release software, or when
you modify the version configuration file.
When you redefine a Pathmaker version, the new software replaces the existing
software. The new software has access to all the existing projects using that
version of the Pathmaker product.
Use the version of PMINSTAL provided with the Pathmaker software. You
cannot use PMINSTAL to install, redefine, move, or purge any other release of the
Pathmaker product.
If you have multiple versions of the Pathmaker product on your system, Tandem
recommends that you specify a subvolume other than the ISV subvolume when
you specify a
target-subvol
.
When PMINSTAL performs an INITIAL installation of the Pathmaker product on
a system, it does not secure the Pathmaker files using your default security.
Rather, PMINSTAL assigns fixed security values to the installation files. Most files
in the new installation subvolume are secured for network (āN) and execute
access, and user (āUā) write and purge access.
The following files are secured for network write access because they must be
written to by multiple users:
$
vol-subvol
.PROJECTS for users who will run PMPROJECT
$
vol-subvol
.ACTIVE for users who will run the Pathmaker product
$
vol-subvol
.ACTIVE0 for users who will run the Pathmaker product
$
vol-subvol
.CTXTMAP for users who will run the Pathmaker product
If PMINSTAL creates the $SYSTEM.PATHMAKR.INSTALLS file during the
installation process, the file is secured for network read, write, and execute access,
and user purge access.
Examples In the following example, the configuration file is named CNFGFILE and the
Pathmaker product is being installed on $PMKR.PMKR. The ISV is
$SYSTEM.ZPATHMKR.
22> RUN $SYSTEM.ZPATHMKR.PMINSTAL /OUT $S.#
prt
/
$pmkr.pmkr.cnfgfile INITIAL $pmkr.pmkr
In the following example, the configuration file is also named CNFGFILE. To redefine
the Pathmaker installation on $PMKR.PMKR, enter:
23> EDIT $pmkr.pmkr.cnfgfile
....
