UPDATE help-db-loc FROM help-file
Updates the key-sequenced help database files from the help text EDIT file. Use
UPDATE after you have extracted help text from a help database and have used
an editor to change the help text EDIT file.
If UPDATE finds the key (requester name and screen field name) in the help
database, it replaces the existing text with the new text. If UPDATE is unable to
find the key it gives an error message.
Both the help database and the EDIT file must exist before you issue the UPDATE
command.
help-db-loc
The volume and subvolume of the help database to update. Must be a valid
volume and subvolume. The help database must exist before you issue the
UPDATE command.
help-file
The file in which you placed the extracted help text. Must be a valid file name,
and must exist before you issue the UPDATE command.
Using HELPUTIL Follow these guidelines when using HELPUTIL:
Adding New Help Text Entries
You cannot add new help text entries with HELPUTIL. Use the Pathmaker product to
add help text for a new screen field or for a screen field that previously had no help
text.
To add a help text entry for the entire requester, use the Pathmaker Requester
Description screen.
To add a help text entry for an individual field, use the Pathmaker Display Detail
screen. Another way to add help for a field is to use the HELP clause in DDL.
To add a help text entry for function keys, use the Pathmaker Display Text screen.
After adding help text, you must regenerate the requesters to add the new help to the
database.
Refer to the Pathmaker Programming Guide for instructions on adding new help text
entries to an installed application.
Extracting Help Text
You can use HELPUTIL to extract or load a help database even if no Pathmaker project
catalog is present.
Tandem recommends that you back up the help database files before extracting help
text, to allow recovery should an error occur during an update. For example, if
