distributed transaction processing (DTP)
distributed transaction processing (DTP). The coordination of transactions among
application servers residing within a Compaq Expand network and possibly accessing
different database management systems (SQL/MP and Enscribe). DTP allows the
coordination of multiple, autonomous actions as a single logical unit of work.

dynamic server. (1) In a PATHMON environment, a server process that the PATHMON
process creates after a TCP or LINKMON process has waited for a specified time period
for a static server to become available. A dynamic server process exists only as long as it
is needed. See also static server
. (2) In a Pathway/XM environment, a server process
that is created when it is needed rather than at startup time, and which exists only as
long as it is needed. All server processes in a distributed server class are dynamic
servers. Direct or replicated server classes can include a specified number of static
servers to be created when the server class is started, and a dynamic server can be
created after a TCP or LINKMON process has waited for a specified time period for a
static server to become available. See also static server
