NODE Objects
shut down the Pathway/XM environment, and to obtain status information about the
entire environment.
NODE Objects
A logical node, or NODE object, defines a set of processor (CPU) resources on a
particular Compaq system and, optionally, default object attributes used for either
requesters (clients) or servers in the Pathway/XM environment.
One process broker (PB) process is created for each NODE object in the Pathway/XM
environment. The PB processes use the NODE specifications for automatic balancing of
the transaction workload.
Client NODE objects (those whose ROLE attribute is CLIENT) specify resources used
for TCP processes, link control service (LCS) processes, and PATHMON processes.
Server NODE objects (those whose ROLE attribute is SERVER) specify resources used
for server processes.
PATHMON Object
The PATHMON object represents a PATHMON process, which controls a set of
requester-related and server-related objects in a Pathway/XM environment. A
Pathway/XM environment includes one or more PATHMON processes, all of which
have the same configuration attributes.
Under the direction of the PXMCOM utility and the SuperCTL file, each PATHMON
process defines, configures, and manages the TCP, TERM, PROGRAM, and SERVER
objects under its control. It also handles the TELL objects (tell messages) directed to
the terminals it controls.
TCP Processes
In the Pathway/XM environment, TCP processes are configured automatically by
PXMCFG based on the information in the associated TCP template and in the rest of the
configuration. PXMCOM creates these processes with internal-format process names
(process handles). You do not manage or refer to TCP processes directly, but by
referring to their associated TERM objects or to several TCPs as a group.
For example, you can perform an operation on all TCPs in any one of the following sets
by using a single PXMCOM command:
•
The TCP associated with a specified TERM object
•
All the TCPs associated with one or more of the TERM objects in a named group
•
All the TCPs in the Pathway/XM environment
•
All the TCPs in the Pathway/XM environment that are in the RUNNING state
Each TCP process controls a set of TERM objects (either configured TERM objects or
temporary TERM objects) and is also involved in the sending of tell messages (TELL
objects) to the terminals it controls.
