Cool Starting a PATHMON Environment
Cool Starting a PATHMON Environment
To cool start a Pathway/XM environment, use the COOL start option as follows:
>> START PATHWAY COOL
In response to this command, PXMCOM performs the following steps, using the current
configuration information in the SuperCTL file:
1. Creates the process broker (PB) processes: one PB process pair for each NODE
object specified in the configuration.
2. Creates the PATHMON processes: one for each NODE object specified in the
NODES attribute of the SET PATHMON statement.
3. Causes a PATHWAY object to be configured in each PATHMON process.
4. Issues a PATHCOM START PATHWAY command to each PATHMON process.
These commands cause the PATHMON processes to create their PATHMON
configuration (PATHCTL) files and their backup processes. Each PATHMON
process preallocates disk space for its PATHCTL file based on the maximum values
that you specified in the SET PATHWAY statements.
5. Records the names of the newly created PATHCTL files in the SuperCTL file.
6. Causes the TCP processes, PROGRAM objects, and server classes to be configured
in their PATHMON processes. However, no processes are created yet for these
entities.
Warm Starting a PATHMON Environment
To warm start a Pathway/XM environment, use the WARM start option as follows:
>> START PATHWAY WARM
In response to this command, the PXMCOM process does the following:
1. Creates the process broker (PB) processes: one PB process pair for each NODE
object specified in the configuration.
2. Creates the PATHMON processes: one for each NODE object specified in the
NODES attribute of the SET PATHMON statement.
3. Uses the existing PATHCTL files as a basis for creating its operating environment.
The existing PATHCTL files represent the configuration of all objects under each
PATHMON process at the time the Pathway/XM environment stopped (due to
shutdown or failure).
Starting TCP, TERM, and SERVER Objects
After you start your Pathway/XM environment, you issue START commands to activate
the TCP, TERM, and SERVER objects.
When the PXMCOM process executes a START command, it checks the status of the
specified objects and then performs the operations needed to start the objects. If an
