Recovering from PATHMON Process Failures
STATS SERVER Command
LINKMON processes automatically gather statistics for servers. They continually
collect statistics about each server class with which they have links, unless the server
class stops for any reason—in which case, the statistics are lost.
To display these statistics, use the STATS SERVER command. The STATS SERVER
display shows the LINKMON process resources used to communicate with the server
class, including information about queues and sends to and replies from the server class.
For more information about use of the STATS SERVER command, see Displaying
Statistics for Servers on page 9-7.
Recovering from PATHMON Process Failures
All PATHMON processes in a Pathway/XM environment run as process pairs;
therefore, recovery from a PATHMON process failure is usually automatic. However, if
for some reason a PATHMON process fails and does not recover, perform the following
steps to capture data about the failure and restart the PATHMON process:
1. Capture data about the failure. Use the VPROC command from the TACL prompt
to get the product version. If you have been running the Pathway/XM environment
with the PATHMON processes’ DUMP parameter set to ON, retrieve dumps from
the PATHMON processes, which have names of the form ZZPMnnn. Get any
relevant messages from the Pathway/XM and EMS log files. Note what commands
you were using or what functions you were performing at the time of the failure.
Collect this information to have available in case you need to contact your Compaq
representative for help.
2. Shut down the Pathway/XM environment by using the STOP PATHWAY
command, as described under Shutting Down a Pathway/XM Environment
on
page 7-32.
3. Use Guardian STOP commands to stop any Pathway/XM processes that are still
running. For more information about the Guardian STOP command, refer to the
Guardian User’s Guide.
4. Reissue the STOP PATHWAY command to clean up the information in the
SuperCTL file so that it can be restarted.
5. Warm start the Pathway/XM environment, as described under Warm Starting a
PATHMON Environment on page 7-14.
6. If the warm start is unsuccessful, perform a cool start, as described under Cool
Starting a PATHMON Environment on page 7-14.
