If Shutdown Cannot Complete
If PXMCOM encounters an error while shutting down, it terminates the shutdown
operation. PXMCOM returns the reason for the failure. In some cases, you may need to
examine the log file to determine why shutdown did not complete, correct the problem,
and reissue the STOP PATHWAY command.
The following are examples of situations in which shutdown cannot complete:
An external object, such as an associative server process, cannot be stopped.
The network goes down and a locally controlled TCP is running on a remote system
in that network.
If shutdown cannot be completed by using STOP PATHWAY, you can stop the
remaining Pathway/XM processes manually by using Guardian STOP commands.
1. Issue the STATUS PATHMON command to obtain the names of the PATHMON
processes.
2. Use Guardian STOP commands to stop the primary and backup PATHMON
processes. For more information about the Guardian STOP command, refer to the
Guardian User’s Guide.
3. Use Guardian STOP commands to stop any other Pathway/XM processes that are
still running.
4. Reissue the STOP PATHWAY command to clean up the information in the
SuperCTL file so that it can be restarted.
Using PXMCOM During Shutdown
When you issue a STOP PATHWAY command, the PXMCOM prompt is suspended
until shutdown completes, or until you specifically request the prompt to return using
the TIMEOUT option with the STOP PATHWAY command.
After the PXMCOM prompt returns, you can either initiate communication with another
Pathway/XM environment or terminate PXMCOM. For example, to open
communication with the SuperCTL file named SCTL2, enter:
>> OPEN SCTL2
To terminate PXMCOM, enter:
>> EXIT
After PXMCOM executes this command, the PXMCOM process ceases to exist and
control returns to TACL.
