For the syntax of the TELL TERM command, refer to TELL TERM on page 11-104.
For the syntax of the INFO TELL command, refer to INFO TELL on page 11-36. For
the syntax of the DELETE TELL command, refer to DELETE TELL on page 11-22.
Managing Exception Conditions
Sometimes you need to change parameter values in your Pathway/XM environment
because an exception or error condition has occurred for an object, such as a TERM
object or a TCP. Before you can respond to an exception condition, you must know that
the condition exists and understand what caused it.
There are two ways to detect an exception condition for a TERM object or TCP:
Periodically check object status with a STATUS TERM or STATUS TCP
command.
Monitor the log file for TERM and TCP information.
You might need to use both methods to detect the conditions you are interested in
because not all exception conditions show up in both sources.
The STATUS TERM and STATUS TCP commands can be issued on a regular basis,
either manually or by running a PXMCOM command file, to check exception conditions
for TERM objects and TCPs. For the syntax of these commands, refer to STATUS
TERM on page 11-89 and STATUS TCP on page 11-85.
Event Management Service (EMS) event messages for TCP and TERM objects are an
important source of detecting exception conditions for these objects. When a TCP fails,
it generates an EMS 512 event (old format), regardless of the system configuration.
Because of the large quantity of events often generated, it is not easy or efficient for an
operator to read the event-message log to detect certain exception conditions. As an
alternative to having an operator read the event messages, you can use an EMS printing
distributor with filtering logic to sort out the messages for which the operator should
take immediate action. For more information about printing distributors and filters, see
the EMS Manual.
