Pathway/XM Benefits and Features
Compaq NonStop Pathway/XM simplifies the management of Pathway applications
by means of several features. It provides a centralized configuration and management
interface with automatic load balancing, online reconfiguration and replacement of
servers, simplified object naming, and an increased overall system capacity.
The following topics are included:
Automatic Management With Logical
Configurations
Pathway/XM automates the process of configuring a complex Pathway environment by
allowing you to define logical configurations that are decoupled from physical
resources. With Pathway/XM, you define processes such as TCPs and server classes in
terms of abstractions, or templates, rather than individual instances. Based on the entire
configuration, Pathway/XM automatically determines how many instances of each
process should be configured, and then automatically assigns interrelationships between
processes and tasks—for example, assigns TCPs and server classes to PATHMON
processes and terminal tasks to TCPs—to optimize throughput.
Simplified Management of Large Applications
For large Pathway applications and multiple Pathway environments, a single
Pathway/XM environment provides a simpler management interface. Pathway/XM
allows you to define over one million processes (PATHMON processes, TCPs, and
servers) and terminal tasks in a single management environment, without the use of
