PXMCFG Utility
PXMCFG Utility
The PXMCFG utility generates the initial configuration of a Pathway/XM environment.
PXMCFG uses the statements in the configuration source file to build the SuperCTL
file. You run the PXMCFG utility offline (in batch mode) before starting the
Pathway/XM environment.
SERVICE definitions
A SERVICE definition is a set of configuration commands that pre-define environment-
specific attributes for server classes being exported to or imported from another
Pathway/XM environment, such as a third-party application. When you export server
class configurations, the PXMCOM process generates an export-only file that contains
the server class configurations with the node attribute removed. When you import server
class configurations, the PXMCOM process reads the incoming configuration then uses
your SERVICE definition to assign node and group names, and replace any other named
references specific to your environment. The resulting definitions are used by PXMCFG
when building the SuperCTL file.
SuperCTL file
Centralized configuration and control in a Pathway/XM environment is provided by
means of a file called the SuperCTL file. The PXMCFG utility builds the initial
configuration of the Pathway/XM environment in this file in accordance with
configuration statements in a configuration source file. The PXMCOM utility uses the
information in this file to start up and manage the Pathway/XM environment.
PXMCOM also maintains current configuration and object-state information in the
SuperCTL file while the application is running.
PXMCHK Utility
The PXMCHK utility program reads a configuration input file and verifies that all the
named references (such as file names or node names) can be resolved. You run the
PXMCHK utility before migrating to a new configuration, after you move the new
configuration input file to the Pathway/XM environment in which it is to run.
PXMCOM Process
The PXMCOM process provides the run-time management interface for a Pathway/XM
environment. It provides commands to monitor the environment, change the state of
objects, reassign system resources, and reconfigure distributed server classes online.
You can run PXMCOM either interactively or by means of a command file.
Internally, PXMCOM manages the global Pathway/XM environment and maintains the
current state information in the SuperCTL file.
Process Broker (PB) Processes
The process broker (PB) processes manage system and CPU resource assignments for
requesters and servers. They also manage distributed-server process reservations on
behalf of the LCS processes.
