As indicated in the figure, PCFORMAT is one of several software packages
involved in the overall process, and all work can be directed from the 654X
workstation.

Data Extraction From
Tandem Database
The first step in retrieving data for a 654X application is to locate the
record(s) and associated file(s) containing the data of interest on the
Tandem database. From the 654X, this is accomplished by first running the
EM653X emulator program and logging onto the Tandem host system. If
the data of interest is already organized as needed in an existing database
file (or files), and the names of the record(s) and file(s) are known, then
PCFORMAT can be used immediately after the logon. Otherwise, the
ENFORM program must be used to query the database and optionally
create a new database file containing the selected data. This last process
may involve adding a record description to the database dictionary for the
new file.
