PCFORMAT User's Guide

2 Operation
066374 Tandem Computers Incorporated 2–1
General The first part of this section contains instructions for using PCFORMAT
from a 654X workstation. The section closes with a detailed example that
starts with a look at some data from the Tandem database and ends with
the use of the data in a PC-compatible application.
We assume you are familiar with the basic operation of the 654X
workstation, and know how to power it up and down, install and format
diskettes, use the keyboard, etc. Reference the 654X Workstation Operations
Guide if you need help with any of this.
The requirements for running PCFORMAT from the 654X include:
The MS-DOS diskette and MS-DOS supplemental diskette (containing
the EM653X emulator) must be available.
The 654X and its communications line to the host must be ready to run
the EM653X emulator (i.e., the 654X configuration menus must be set
up properly and a COMINT process must be running at the host end of
the line).
On the host, the PCFORMAT software must be installed on the
$SYSTEM.SYSTEM subvolume.
To transfer a converted output file produced by PCFORMAT to the 654X,
the Information Xchange Facility (IXF) diskette must be available.
Note The procedures in this section assume your 654X software is distributed among diskettes as
listed above. However, to eliminate much of the diskette exchanging due to this distribution,
you may decide to combine the software you use repeatedly onto one diskette. Reference
the MS-DOS User’s Guide if you need help rearranging the software on your diskettes.
