Operation
2–6 066374 Tandem Computers Incorporated
Procedure
The following procedure contains the details needed to perform the steps in
Figure 2-1. The numbered steps that follow correspond to the numbered
steps in the figure.
1. Boot MS-DOS into your 654X workstation as follows:
a. Install MS-DOS diskette in drive A of your 654X workstation and
the MS-DOS supplemental diskette in drive B.
b. Turn on power to the 654X (power to the diskette drive must also
be on) and wait for the self-test to complete. If the 654X is on, press
and hold the CTRL and ALT keys while pressing the DEL key
(CTRL-ALT-DEL) to boot MS-DOS.
c. After the 654X banner is displayed, either (1) respond to the date
and time prompts on the screen until the MS-DOS command line
prompt (A>) is displayed, or (2) run the HOSTTIME.EXE program
on the MS-DOS supplemental diskette as described under the
“Preparing to Run PCFORMAT” heading.
2. Run EM653X emulator (on the MS-DOS supplemental diskette) as
follows:
a. Type “B:T” on the MS-DOS command line and press RETURN to
run EM653X.
b. When the screen is erased, press RETURN to display the COMINT
prompt.
3. Log onto the host system
Note The remaining steps in this procedure assume you have access to a host database. In this
example, we will be working with a sample database file and record description. Instructions
for creating the sample are not included here. Either substitute a file and record from your
database when the sample is referenced in this procedure, or create the sample on your
own with DDL and ENABLE.
