COPY Command
COPY Command
066374 Tandem Computers Incorporated 3–5
PURGE
deletes an existing file from the destination subvolume
having the same name as <output file>. The <output file>
replaces the deleted file. If this option is not used and a file
exists with the same name as <output file>, PCFORMAT
terminates with an error message.
Examples
The COPY command provides three ways to designate a database file for
conversion: (1) entering a COMINT ASSIGN command prior to the
PCFORMAT COPY command, (2) using the DATAFILE option in the COPY
command, and (3) specifying only a <record name> that identifies the file.
Examples of all three methods are included under the heading “Running
PCFORMAT” in Section 2.
Note The DATAFILE option has the highest priority for specifying a database file, followed by a
COMINT ASSIGN command, and then <record name>. In other words, if both the
DATAFILE option and COMINT ASSIGN command are used with one COPY command, the
file named by DATAFILE is used. Only when DATAFILE and COMINT ASSIGN are not
used is the file named in <record name> used.
Dictionary in Current
Subvolume
Normally you can save keystrokes by selecting the subvolume containing
the database dictionary prior to entering the COPY command. This is
particularly true when you plan to enter more than one COPY command
for the same dictionary.
Unless otherwise specified with the DICTIONARY option, the COPY
command assumes the database dictionary is in the current subvolume. For
example:
:PCFORMAT COPY (FORMAT BASIC) AUTO-PARTS AS
