7 Troubleshooting HP NonStop POS Transaction
Analyzer
This chapter provides information on the common troubleshooting queries.
POS/TA provides you with simple, easy to use utilities and log files to troubleshoot common problems & queries.
7-1 General Troubleshooting Checklist
1. Check if POS/TA is up & running and healthy. You can use the STATPTLF tool to check the status of
POS/TA.
2. Check if POS/TA has READ access to the PTLF files.
3. Check if new transactions are logged to the PTLFDB file using the BESTATUS utility.
4. Check if network connection is established and POS/TA Application Server is a registered subscriber for
#B24POS. Use the ELDUMP utility against Elink process. You can also check the connection health using
the NonStop Nodes Status tool on POS/TA Application Server system.
5. Check if the POS/TA Application Server is running and processing transactions. Use Services to check the
status of the following services.
a. Elink service
b. Command and Control
c. POS/TA Logger
d. POS/TA Recovery
e. POS/TA Stat Generator
f. POS/TA Threshold Monitor
g. POS/TA Maintain
h. POS/TA Statistics Adjustment
6. Check the POS/TA Web Server connectivity to POS/TA database. In case the Web Server is on a
different system, you can use DSN to test the connectivity.
7. Check if the MS IIS is up and running. You can use INETMGR or http://web-server/ link to see if IIS is
ready for service.
8. Check if the status of Web Service Extension ASP.NET v2.0.50727 in MS IIS is Allowed. Make sure that the
status is not Prohibited. The Web Service Extension in MS IIS is only available if the POS Transaction
Analyzer Web Server is installed on Microsoft Windows Server 2003,
9. Check if the end-user desktop has connectivity to the Web Server.
10. Update HOSTTIMEINFO table in POSTA Database before generating POS/TA reports.
11. Check if Command and Control service logs the following error message in the log file:
Exception during processing : Exception When Parsing commands -- Object reference not set to an instance
of an object.

If yes, then check for the extra space provided in the configurable parameters of Nodename_TelnetScript.
