Processor Halt Codes Manual

Cause
An invalid PCB is encountered.
Effect
The processor halts. The rest of the system is not affected.
Recovery
Refer to Processor Halt Monitoring and Recovery (page 10). After taking a memory dump, contact
your service provider or the Global NonStop Solution Center (GNSC), as directed by your local
operating procedures.

Cause
No public DLLs were preloaded, due to a problem with the ZREG or ZREGPTR files, or the
implicit_import statement in the ZREG file. The processor is halted because without public DLLs,
many parts of the system cannot operate.
Effect
The processor halts. Because the most likely problem is some kind of corruption or faulty
construction of the installed software on disk, it is probable that the halt occurs when cold loading,
before any reload attempt can be made, so the whole node is down. If corruption of the set of
active files occurs while the system is running, a reloaded processor halts but other processors
can remain running; the halt is likely to recur in any processor reloaded until the corruption is
repaired.
Recovery
If the failure occurred while cold loading, revert to a previously working system image (SYSnn
and ZDLLrrr subvolumes). Then reconstruct and/or reinstall the system that failed. Check for
preload-related EMS events (DLL subsystem, subsystem-id 260), as they should indicate the source
of the problem. If you edited the ZREG or ZREGPTR files or manually replaced or removed any
files in subvolume ZDLLrrr, undo those changes. If the failure occurred while reloading a system
that had been running, look for and try to repair corruption in the SYSnn and ZDLLrrr
subvolumes. (If you are able to run FUP, the ZDLLrrr subvolume associated with SYSnn can be
displayed by running "fup copy $system.sysnn.zregptr,,a" - where $SYSTEM.SYSnn is the
current cold-load subvolume.)

Cause
The public DLL containing the TNS emulator, ZTNSDLL, failed to preload, but some public DLLs
successfully preloaded. The processor is halted because without the TNS emulator, no TNS
programs (including TACL and FUP) can be run. (The TNS emulator object file might be missing,
or might be present and have failed to preload for any of several reasons.)
Effect
The processor halts. Because the most likely problem is some kind of corruption or faulty
construction of the installed software on disk, it is probable that the halt occurs when cold loading,
before any reload attempt can be made, so the whole node is down. If corruption of the set of
active files occurs while the system is running, a reloaded processor halts but other processors
can remain running; the halt is likely to recur in any processor reloaded until the corruption is
repaired.
Recovery
Check for preload-related EMS events (DLL subsystem, subsystem-id 260). An event (102 in the
DLL subsystem) will indicate the error and error-detail that resulted in this failure. These error and
error-detail values are listed in the Process Creation Errors section of the Guardian Procedure
