Record-Formatting Commands
Using the LABEL Command to Interpret Trace Record Data
When LABEL is set to ON, PTrace interprets the data in the trace record and displays
its meaning below the record header line. Each subsystem interprets trace data
differently. The LABEL option has no effect on the display of the trace file header
record; the fields in this display are always labeled. Example 2-2 on page 2-10 shows
the effect of setting LABEL to OFF.
Using the HEX, OCTAL, TEXT, and EBCDIC Commands to
Determine the Format of Displayed Data
When HEX, OCTAL, or TEXT is set, a dump of the trace data appears below the
record header or the labeled data if it is present. These commands display all data that
follows the data record header; the header is not included. If all three are on, then
three separate dumps are displayed. Each dump can fill several lines.
HEX and OCTAL display the character equivalent of each byte at the end of each line.
If EBCDIC is on, the character equivalents are EBCDIC; if it is off, the character
equivalents are ASCII. Non-printing and control characters are replaced with periods.
Example 2-2 shows a portion of a file with HEX, OCTAL, and TEXT set to ON.
