Technical Overview of the Real Time Information Director

Loading the Data Store
Among the most important functions of the Director is to let enterprise applications
submit event and other data to the Data Store. Any enterprise application can submit
data, provided that it can post XML documents, using HTTP or Java Messaging Service
(JMS), directly or through an EAI tool (often called an Integration Server).
Updates can come from a source system or be submitted interactively for example by a
user at a portal.
The following figure gives a high-level view of how the Director might load a Real Time
Supply Chain (RTSC) Data Store. The figure shows JMS as the transport protocol, but
some RTSC solutions use HTTP. Labels in the figure are highlighted in the subsequent
text.
