Migrating the Host and Client Directly to RSC/MP 7.2
The migration from RSC 5.0 and earlier to RSC/MP 7.2 can be a large effort. The
migration requires conversion to Piccolo and spans a number of changes in
functionality. Upgrading directly to RSC/MP 7.2 may be the best approach in situations
where an application is using functionality that has been discontinued, requiring
application changes as part of the migration or in situations where the number of
clients to migrate prevents the double-migration to RSC/MP 6.3, then to RSC/MP 7.2.
To migrate from RSC version 5.0 and earlier versions directly to RSC/MP 7.2, do the
following:
1. Install the new RSC/MP host component; see Installing RSC/MP on the Host on
page 3-1).
2. On the host, add and start a TDP PIPE object, see Configuring TDP Objects on
page 12-4.
3. Install the new RSC/MP client; see Installing RSC/MP on Windows Workstations
on page 4-1 or Installing RSC/MP on UNIX Workstations on page 6-1.
4. Create the RSC/MP Transport (Piccolo) configuration for use with the installation
testing program (see Configuring the RSC/MP Transport (Piccolo) on page 5-1).
Verify a connection can be made by using the PIPECP CONNECT command.
5. Create a simple RSC.INI file for use with the installation testing program. See
Basic RSC.INI Configuration on page 14-2.
6. Verify the RSC/MP installation by using the RSCTEST or RSCTESTW program;
see Testing the RSC/MP Client Configuration on page 14-8.
7. Modify the configuration for existing applications using information in Migrating
Connectivity Options on page A-8.
