D-Series and G-Series Comparison
and Migration
The following topics are discussed in this appendix.
G-Series System Configuration Enhancements
The new subsystems (such as Kernel, SLSA, storage, and WAN) created for G-series
systems differ from the subsystems that exist on D-series systems in the following
ways:
The new subsystem managers are configured as generic processes rather than as
I/O processes. If a subsystem manager is abnormally terminated, the $ZPM
persistence manager immediately restarts it.
Processes created in the new subsystems are persistent. If the system comes
down, these processes are automatically restarted as soon as the system is
loaded. In contrast, devices and subdevices configured by nonpersistent
subsystems must be manually restarted after a system load.
If you are managing a system running D-series from a system running G-series,
you can use the D-series SCF commands and subsystems. The G-series
commands and subsystems, however, have no meaning on a system running
D-series. This is discussed further under Running SCF in a Network on page 1-14.
Table C-1 compares D-series and G-series system configuration.
