TSM and OSM
Refer to TSM or OSM online help for information about using TSM or OSM for
monitoring and troubleshooting tape drives and SCSI extenders connected to tape
drives. You cannot use TSM or OSM to monitor tape libraries or SCSI extenders
connected to tape libraries.
Visual Inspection
Review these procedures to assure installation of the SCSI extenders have been
completed correctly:
1. Be sure all devices are powered on.
2. Check connections. Make sure all cords are plugged in tightly and that there are no
bent pins.
3. Check the LEDs. There should be no red lights illuminated.
4. Check the fiber cables. Are the connectors alternating positions between the Fiber-
to SCSI (CTFSE) and SCSI-to-Fiber extenders (CTSFE)?
5. Check the length of the cable. Is the correct length of the fiber cable being used to
coincide with the Long Wave GBIC?
6. Check the SCSI IDs. For more information, refer to Configure the Storage Devices
on page 5-2.
7. Were the SCSI extenders powered on in the correct sequence?
a. The Fiber-to-SCSI extender (CTFSE) must be powered on first.
b. After the Fiber-to-SCSI extender (CTFSE) beeps, the SCSI-to-Fiber extender
(CTSFE) may be powered on.
If a device is unplugged or loses power, be sure to power on the SCSI extenders in
the correct sequence after powering on the attached device.
