1 Introducing SSG
The HP SeeView Server Gateway (SSG) is an HP host process that provides a
command and control server gateway to HP NonStop OS command interpreters (CIs)
on HP host systems. By using the SSG product, you can readily access command
interpreters, such as TACL, SCF, EMSA, SQLCI, and the File Utility Program (FUP)
from workstation client applications.
The HP Client Server Gateway (CSG) is a workstation process that accepts service
requests from workstation applications. By using the CSG product, you can perform
command and control operations in conjunction with the SSG on NonStop systems.
SSG Features
SSG provides these features:
A generalized command interpreter gateway
Shared context-free request services
Private context-maintaining request services
Automatic creation and maintenance of host tasks as requested
Blocked boxcarred command interpreter responses up to 32K
Asynchronous buffering of multiple responses
Multiple message-segmented protocol for large responses
The CSG/SSG application program interface (API) provides these features:
Requests to SeeView Server Gateways (SSGs) via the SSGSend API
ASCII requests to other server classes via the SRVSend API
Built-in support for TCP/IP and Async transport
SSG Benefits
SSG provides these benefits:
Communications transport layer independence
Elimination of transport layer API calls
Reduction in the number of operations management servers
Caching of command interpreter responses for optimal performance
The CSG/SSG application program interface (API) provides these benefits:
Separation of the transport layer from client applications
Centralized tracing and record/reply capabilities
Sharing of potentially limited communication resources
