Modular ServerNet Expansion Boards (MSEBs)
Modular ServerNet Expansion Boards (MSEBs)
The MSEBs route ServerNet packets out of each node and onto the external
ServerNet fabrics. MSEBs are similar to system expansion boards (SEBs) but use
plug-in cards (PICs) to provide a choice of connection media (ECL, fiber-optic, or serial
copper). Fiber-optic ServerNet cables connect the MSEBs in each node to the
ServerNet II Switches. The MSEBs that connect to the ServerNet II Switches must be
installed in slot 51 (X fabric) and slot 52 (Y fabric) of the group 01 enclosure in each
node.
The plug-in card (PIC) in port 6 of the MSEB must contain the node-numbering agent
(NNA) field-programmable gate array (FPGA) for packet modification. The NNA FPGA
converts the addresses of the ServerNet packets routed to the external ServerNet
fabrics so that the packets can be routed to another node. Unlike the PICs in the
ServerNet II Switches, the MSEB PICs are customer-replaceable units (CRUs).
To install or replace MSEBs, refer to the online help for the SEB/MSEB replacement
guided procedure (TSM) or the online help for the Replace action of the MSEB (OSM).
For a detailed description of the MSEBs, refer to the NonStop S-Series Planning and
Configuration Guide.
ServerNet Cluster Switch
The ServerNet Cluster Switch, model 6770, consists of three components:
ServerNet II Switch on page 1-7 provides the ServerNet connections to the nodes
in a ServerNet cluster.
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) on page 1-10 provides backup battery power
for the ServerNet II Switch.
