Planning for the ServerNet Cluster Switch
Hardware Configurations
When planning the location of the ServerNet Cluster Switch and each of the nodes,
consider the following:
•
The length of the fiber-optic ServerNet cables between each ServerNet Cluster
Switch and each node. For more information, refer to Planning for Cable and
Power Cord Connections on page 2-12.
•
The length of each dual power cord from the AC transfer switch is 2.5 meters (8.2
feet).
Planning for Installation in an EIA Standard Rack
•
For maximum fault tolerance and ease of service, consider placing the ServerNet II
Switch and related components for each fabric in separate 19-inch racks.
•
Your rack must be between 24-inches and 26-inches in depth.
•
You must have adequate space for servicing both in front and behind the rack.
Forty-four inches in front of the rack is required. When fully extended, the
ServerNet II Switch extends 24 inches from the front of the rack. Allow an
additional 20 inches in front of the rack for installing or replacing the switch.
•
The UPS must be placed at the bottom of the rack in the fixed rails provided with
the rack-mount kit.
•
Place the AC transfer switch directly above the UPS.
•
Place the ServerNet II Switch on slide rails above the AC transfer switch.
Planning for ServerNet Cluster Switch Enclosures
•
ServerNet Cluster Switch enclosures can be placed on the floor.
•
We recommend that the ServerNet Cluster Switch enclosures be physically
separated from each other to aid in identification and cable distribution.
•
You must have adequate space for servicing both in front and behind the
ServerNet Cluster Switch enclosure. Forty-four inches in front of the enclosure is
required. When fully extended, the ServerNet II Switch extends 24 inches from the
front of the enclosure. Allow an additional 20 inches in front of the enclosure for
installing or replacing the switch.
•
For ease of service and to minimize the floor space required, you can order a
ServerNet Cluster Switch enclosure stacked on a base system enclosure.
(Figure 2-3 on page 2-11) Your service provider can stack each ServerNet Cluster
Switch enclosure on top of an existing base system enclosure. Instructions about
how to stack enclosures are provided in the NonStop S-series Service Provider
Supplement.
