Summary of Tasks
Summary of Tasks
The procedure to install the fiber-optic cables varies depending on whether you are
migrating from a ServerNet cluster with 6770 switches or installing a new ServerNet
cluster.
Installing a New ServerNet Cluster With 6780 Switches
1. Select a fabric to install.
2. Connect one node to one 6780 switch in one group. Refer to Connecting the
Cables Between a Node and a 6780 Switch on page 6-18.
3. For each group in the fabric you are installing, connect the cables between the
layers. Refer to Connecting the Layer Cables on page 6-4. You must connect all
the layer cables, before connecting the zone cables. If you have only one layer,
skip this step.
4. Connect the cables between zones. Refer to Connecting the Zone Cables on
page 6-10. If you have only one zone, skip this step.
5. Perform the Add Node to ServerNet Cluster Action. Refer to Using the OSM
Service Connection on page 7-2. If you are using SCF to configure and start the
Expand-over-ServerNet lines, skip this step.
6. Configure the Expand-Over-ServerNet Lines. If you are using SCF to add the
Expand lines, refer to Using SCF on page 7-2. If you added the Expand-over-
ServerNet lines using the Add Node to ServerNet Cluster action in the OSM
Service Connection, skip this step.
7. For the remaining nodes in the fabric, repeat steps 6 and 7.
8. Repeat all steps for the other fabric.
Migrating From 6770 Switches
To migrate from a ServerNet cluster with 6770 switches to a layered topology with
6780 switches:
1. Perform the Update Topology action using the OSM Service Connection. Refer to
Update Topology Action on page 9-2.
2. Select a fabric to migrate.
3. Remove all nodes from that fabric.
