Connecting the Zone Cables
Connecting the Zone Cables
This subsection describes connecting the fiber-optic cables between 6780 switches in
different zones.
1. Inventory the hardware. For more information, refer to Task 7: Plan for the Fiber-
Optic Cables on page 3-15.
a. Check that you have the correct number of zone cables.
b. Check that you have the correct type of cables in the required lengths.
2. Label both ends of each fiber-optic cable. Refer to Zone Cable Connections on
page 6-10.
On each label, include the fabric, zone, and layer of the switch, and the slot
number, and port number the cable will be connected to. For example, switch X12,
slot 12, port 1 one end of the cable and switch X14, slot 12, port 1 on the other
end.
3. Connect the fiber-optic cables between the zones. Refer to Connect the Zone
Cables on page 6-17
Zone Cable Connections
Each zone cable connects to a 6780 switch in another zone with the same layer
number. The cable connections vary depending on the number of zones:
•
Two-Zone ServerNet Cluster on page 6-11
•
Three-Zone ServerNet Cluster on page 6-14
Note. Only a two-zone ServerNet cluster is supported with the long-distance option. Also, the
long-distance option affects the type of connections between zones. See Appendix G, Using
the Long-Distance Option.
