Connecting the Cables Between a Node and a 6780
Switch
Connecting the Cables Between a Node and a
6780 Switch
This subsection describes connecting each node to a 6780 switch.
Alerts
•
Do not connect the cables between the 6780 switch and the node until instructed
to do so.
•
During the procedure to connect the cables between the switches, you must
connect one node for each group to a switch. Do not connect any other nodes
until all the switches on this fabric have been connected together.
Task 1: Double-Check the Required Software and Hardware
If the node does not already have the required software and hardware installed, you
must do so now. Refer to these topics:
•
Software Requirements for NonStop S-Series Servers on page 1-8.
•
Task 3: Check and Install the Required Software on page 4-3
•
Hardware Required on page 1-10
•
Hardware Installation and Migration Planning on page 3-5
Task 2: Label the Cables That Connect to the Node
Label this information on both ends of each fiber-optic cable:
1. Locate the label sheet provided with the switch.
2. On one side of each label:
a. Circle switch and write the name of the switch (for example, X11, X21, Y32)
b. Write the slot number of the switch PIC (for example, 6, 7, 8, or 9).
c. Write the port number of the switch PIC (for example, 1 or 2).
3. On the other side of each label:
a. Circle node and write the node name and ServerNet node number.
b. Write the slot number and port number of the connection to the NonStop
server. (For example, slot 51 or 52, port number 6 in a NonStop S-series
server.)
4. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for the label for the other end of the same cable.
