Removing Switches From a ServerNet Cluster
Removing Switches From a ServerNet Cluster
Removing a zone or layer of switches:
Can be done online
Does not change the topology
Does not change the ServerNet node numbers that remain in the ServerNet cluster
To remove a zone or layer of switches:
1. Select the zone or layer to be removed. You can select the zone or layer with the
fewest number of nodes or one that is least critical to your application.
2. Use the Expand Lines Form on page B-9 to record information about the lines that
must be stopped.
3. Check that the ServerNet cluster is operating normally on both fabrics. Resolve
any problems before you proceed.
4. Perform the Update Topology action. Refer to Update Topology Action on
page 9-2. This action disables OSM alarms.
5. Shut down applications that depend on ServerNet connectivity to the nodes and
from the nodes on the zone or layer to be removed.
6. In all nodes of the zone or layer you plan to remove, stop Expand connectivity to
the nodes in the other zones or layers. Refer to Stopping Expand-Over-ServerNet
Lines on page 11-3.
7. In all other ServerNet nodes, stop Expand connectivity to the nodes of the zone or
layer you are removing. Refer to Stopping Expand-Over-ServerNet Lines on
page 11-3.
8. In all nodes of the zone or layer you plan to remove, stop the ServerNet Cluster
Subsystem. Refer to Stopping the ServerNet Cluster Subsystem on page 11-2.
9. Disconnect either the zone cables or layer cables to the zone or layer being
removed on both fabrics. You must disconnect the cables from both sides before
proceeding to the next step. Otherwise, errors can occur.
10. If you removed zone 3, connect the zone cables you removed from zone 3
between zones 1 and 2. For more information, refer to Zone Cable Connections on
page 6-10. If you removed zone 1 or 2, connecting these cables between zone 1
and 3 or between zone 2 and 3 is not supported.
11. Use the OSM Service Connection to enable the OSM alarms suppressed by the
Update Topology action:
a. Right-click ServerNet Cluster, and select Actions.
b. From the Available Actions drop-down list, select Reanalyze.
c. Click Perform action.
