Task 2: Connect the Cables Between Layers
4. Perform the Update Topology action. Refer to the Update Topology Action on
page 9-2. This action disables OSM alarms.
Task 2: Connect the Cables Between Layers
If there is more than one layer in the zone:
1. Label the layer cables as described in Layer Cable Connections on page 6-5.
2. Connect the cables between the layers in the zone to be added.
Task 3: Check Operations
Refer to Checking the Operation of Each Switch on page 8-4.
Task 4: Disconnect the Cables Between Zones
Before adding zone 3, you must disconnect two cables for each layer between zones 1
and 2. You disconnect the two cables shown as broken lines in Figure 9-1.
1. Decide whether to disconnect the fiber-optic cables from zone 1, from zone 2, or
from both zones.
2. For one fabric, disconnect two cables for each layer between zone 1 and zone 2.
Note. To avoid GUID errors, do not disconnect only one cable to a 6780 switch as indicated in
Ta ble 9 -1 or Ta bl e 9-2 and then immediately reconnect it to a switch in the new zone. You
must disconnect both cables from at least one 6780 switch before reconnecting the fiber-optic
cables to another switch. To avoid confusion that can lead to errors, you can disconnect the
cables from all the layers before reconnecting or disconnect the cables from both zone 1 and
zone 2.
