Software Installation Planning
Software Installation Planning
Planning for software includes identifying and installing all required software on all
nodes in the ServerNet cluster.
For more information, refer to Software Requirements for NonStop S-Series Servers on
page 1-8.
Hardware Installation and Migration Planning
To plan the hardware for a layered topology:
1. Order the 6780 switches, fiber-optic cables, and plug-in cards (PICs). For NonStop
S-series servers, order MSEBs if needed.
2. Plan the location of the nodes and the location of the racks containing the 6780
switches.
a. Plan the floor space required.
b. Plan for power. Refer to:
Nodes on page 3-13
6780 Switch on page 3-13
Task 1: Plan for the ServerNet Nodes
A ServerNet cluster that uses the layered topology can consist of as few as two
ServerNet nodes or as many as 96.
Any NonStop S-series server can participate in a ServerNet cluster. However, the
distance between zones varies depending on the types of servers. Refer to Table 3-11,
Type and Length of Cables Required for Clustering, on page 3-17 for more information.
Note. G06.21 and later functionality includes support for the layered topology but is also
backward compatible with the star, split-star, and tri-star topologies.
Note.
