Processes
Task 4: Check Operations and the Required
Processes
1. Check that these processes are configured and started. These processes might
already be configured when you receive a new system:
a. Before a system joins a ServerNet cluster, MSGMON, SANMAN, and
SNETMON must be configured using the correct symbolic names and started.
To check these processes, refer to Checking MSGMON, SANMAN, and
SNETMON on page 8-13.
b. Before Expand line-handler processes can be configured, the Expand manager
process ($ZEXP) and the network-control process ($NCP) must be correctly
configured and started. To check these processes, refer to Checking $NCP
and $ZEXP on page 8-18.
2. Check that all existing ServerNet nodes and any systems to join the cluster are
operating properly.
3. Check that ServerNet communication is possible on both internal fabrics as
described in Checking the Internal ServerNet X and Y Fabrics on page 8-17.
Migrating From a ServerNet Cluster Using 6770 Switches
Before migrating from 6770 switches:
1. Check that all 6770 switches are operating properly. Refer to the ServerNet Cluster
Manual.
2. Check that ServerNet communication is possible on both external fabrics on all
nodes. Refer to Checking the External Fabric for All Nodes on page 8-3.
3. For existing ServerNet nodes, the preparation tasks are now finished. If you have
finished all the planning tasks in Section 3, Planning for Installation and Migration,
proceed to Section 5, Installing 6780 Switches
.
Installing New ServerNet Nodes
Before installing new ServerNet nodes, check that all time attributes are set correctly,
and that there are no conflicts between the system names and numbers for all the
nodes. Check the time setting for each node to:
•
Facilitate correlating EMS event messages emitted by different nodes, when event
logs need to be analyzed for troubleshooting purposes.
•
Facilitate correlating timestamps (such as the time of the last soft or hard reset)
stored in 6780 switches with the nodes’ time.
