Connecting the Fiber-Optic Cables

Handling the Fiber-Optic Cables
One at a time, disconnect the cable from the NonStop S-series server to the 6770
switch on only one fabric.
4. Connect one node to one 6780 switch in one group. Refer to Connecting the
Cables Between a Node and a 6780 Switch on page 6-18.
5. For one group in the fabric you are migrating, connect the cables between the
layers. Refer to Connecting the Layer Cables on page 6-4.
6. For each remaining group in the fabric, connect the cables between the layers.
Refer to Connecting the Layer Cables on page 6-4. You must connect all the layer
cables, before connecting the zone cables.
7. Connect the cables between zones. Refer to Connecting the Zone Cables on
page 6-10. If you have only one zone, skip this step.
8. For the remaining nodes in the fabric you are migrating, connect the node to the
6780 switch. Refer to Connecting the Cables Between a Node and a 6780 Switch
on page 6-18.
9. Route the fiber-optic cables through the cable-management assembly. Refer to
Routing the Fiber-Optic Cables on page 6-22.
10. Use the OSM Service Connection to enable the OSM alarms that were suppressed
by the Update Topology action:
a. Right-click ServerNet Cluster and select Actions.
b. Select Available Actions>Reanalyze and click Perform action.
11. For the fabric you are migrating, check that the ServerNet cluster is operating
properly and that ServerNet communications are possible between all nodes in the
cluster. Refer to Checking the Operation of the ServerNet Cluster on page 8-2.
12. Repeat these steps for the other fabric.
Handling the Fiber-Optic Cables
Note. Do not disconnect both cables.
When removing a node from only one fabric, you do not need to stop the Expand-over-
ServerNet lines or the ServerNet cluster subsystem.
You cannot use the cables for 6770 switches when connecting 6780 switches.
Caution. Before connecting the cables:
•
Handle the fiber-optic cables gently. Do not step on a fiber-optic cable or place a heavy
object on top of a fiber-optic cable.
•
If the cable must be installed with a bend, check that the bend radius is not smaller than
.16 inches (3 to 4 mm).
