Alerts
HP recommends that you have a spare switch on site or have ready access to a
spare switch before starting any procedure that includes a firmware, configuration,
or FPGA change.
Ignore any alarms that occur during the firmware, configuration, or FPGA update.
After a power on or a hard reset of the switch, the 6780 switch starts running the
configuration and FPGA images. The firmware image requires only a soft reset.
Summary of Updating Firmware,
Configuration, and FPGA
You must follow this sequence when downloading the firmware, configuration, and
FPGA to a 6780 switch logic board:
1. Update the firmware.
2. Update the configuration.
3. Update the FPGA.
Before You Start
Before updating the firmware, configuration, and FPGA of an installed switch:
1. Check that all nodes attached to that switch are running the required software.
2. Check that ServerNet interprocessor communication (IPC) connectivity is up on the
other fabric between the nodes.
Updating the 6780 switch logic board configuration causes a temporary disruption
of ServerNet connectivity through the switch.
Using SCF
Although HP strongly recommends using the OSM Service Connection to download
firmware, configuration, or FPGA, service providers can using SCF commands. These
procedures are documented in the NonStop S-Series Service Provider Supplement in
the Hardware and Service Maintenance Library.
Note. Using SCF to download the firmware, configuration, or FPGA can cause OSM alarms
because OSM cannot detect the sensitive actions being performed in the switch
