Planning Checklist
Check that there is enough space for servicing in
front and back of each 19-inch rack.
Floor Space for the Racks on
page 3-12
Plan for the Fiber-Optic Cables
Check that each 6780 switch is no more than 80
meters (measured by cable length) from the
connecting port on the node. For example, check
the connections between the 6780 switch and port
6 in the MSEBs of the group 01 system enclosure
of each NonStop S-series server.
Task 7: Plan for the Fiber-Optic
Cables on page 3-15
For each node that you plan to add to the cluster,
check that you have enough cables (of the correct
length and type) to connect the node to the 6780
switch. For each NonStop S-series server, you
need two SMF cables with an LC connector on
one end and an SC connector on the other end. If
you provide your own cables, the cables must
meet the required specifications.
Check that enough cables (of the correct length
and type) with LC connectors are available to
connect the 6780 switches on each fabric
together.
Check that the cable management assembly is
available to support and route the fiber-optic
cables.

Plan for the Topology
For a migration, you must determine the 6780
switch fabric, layer, zone, PIC slot, and port
number required to maintain the same ServerNet
node number. You need this information when
connecting the cables to the nodes.
Task 8: Plan to Migrate the
ServerNet Nodes From 6770
Switches on page 3-18
Plan the 6780 switch fabric, layer, zone, PIC slot,
and port number required for each node in the
ServerNet cluster.
Task 9: Plan the ServerNet
Node Numbers on page 3-18
Plan for Expand
Determine how many Expand-over-ServerNet
line-handler processes are required.
Task 10: Plan the Expand-Over-
ServerNet Lines on page 3-19
Check that the Expand-over-ServerNet lines can
coexist with other Expand lines.
Plan for Compatibility With
Other Expand Lines on
page 3-20
