Planning for Installation and Migration
ServerNet Cluster 6780 Planning and Installation Guide—527301-008
3-3
Planning Checklist
For the best fault tolerance, check that the
uninterruptible power supplies are available to
support the 6780 switches.
Task 5: Plan for the Power
Requirements on page 3-13
Plan for the Hardware Hardware Installation and
Migration Planning on page 3-5
Plan for the Nodes
If the servers are not already installed, check that
the preinstallation planning for the servers and
peripheral equipment is conducted in accordance
with the required standards.
NonStop S-Series Planning and
Configuration Guide
Check that no more than 96 servers are
connected to a ServerNet cluster.
Task 1: Plan for the ServerNet
Nodes on page 3-5
For each NonStop S-series server to join the
ServerNet cluster, check that MSEBs are installed
in slots 51 and 52 of the group 01 system
enclosure.
Installing the Required
Hardware in NonStop S-Series
Servers on page 4-10
For the MSEBs in slots 51 and 52 of group 01 of
each NonStop S-series server, check that the
MSEBs contain a SMF PIC with the NNA FPGA in
port 6.
Installing the Required
Hardware in NonStop S-Series
Servers on page 4-10
If MSEBs are to be installed in a NonStop S-series
server, check that ServerNet cables with the
appropriate connectors are available to connect
the MSEBs to other system enclosures.
NonStop S-Series Planning and
Configuration Guide
Plan for the System Consoles
Check that an adequate number of system
consoles are available to manage the nodes in the
cluster.
Task 2: Plan for the System
Consoles on page 3-6
Plan for the Switches
Check that the 6780 switches are either available
or ordered.
Task 3: Plan for the 6780
Switches on page 3-8
Check that the PICs for each 6780 switch are
either available or ordered.
Plan the PICs Needed for Each
6780 Switch on page 3-10
Plan for the Racks
Check that enough 19-inch racks are available for
the 6780 switches and other components. If you
are providing your own racks, check that they
meet the required specifications.
Task 4: Plan for the Racks
 on
page 3-12
Check that there is enough floor space to
accommodate the footprint of each 19-inch rack.
Floor Space for the Racks
 on
page 3-12.
