Task 4: Plan for the Racks
Task 4: Plan for the Racks
You can order the 6780 switches already installed in HP racks or order the 6780
switches separately and install them in any EIA standard 19-inch rack. Rack model
numbers and sizes vary; for more information, see the NonStop planning guide for your
S-series or NS-series RVU.
Guidelines for Placement of Cluster Switches
Although not required, to simplify cable management, HP recommends that:
•
6780 switches not be located in the same rack as other Integrity NonStop system
components.
•
6780 switches for each fabric be located in separate racks (the larger the fabric,
the greater the potential for error). If switches for both fabrics are located in the
same rack, fabric labels should be clearly visible.
•
6780 switches (on the same fabric) for a particular group be located in the same
rack. You can also have two groups in the same rack.
Number of Racks Required
1. Determine the number of 6780 switches from Task 3: Plan for the 6780 Switches
on page 3-8.
2. Plan the number of racks required based on the number of switches. Up to two
switch groups in the same fabric are supported in each 19-inch rack.
Floor Space for the Racks
You must plan additional floor space for the racks. You must allow enough service
clearance in front of and behind the rack so that components can be removed for
servicing. External dimensions for rack models vary; for more information, see the
NonStop planning guide for your S-series or NS-series RVU.
Location of the Racks
For information about how to plan the location of the rack in relation to the servers, see
Task 6: Plan the Location of the Hardware on page 3-14.
Cable-Management Assembly
For each 6780 switch, check that you have one cable-management assembly.
