OSM and TSM Client Software
OSM and TSM Client Software
You can use the OSM Service Connection or the TSM Service Application to display
attributes for a selected ServerNet/FX adapter. You can also use the OSM or TSM
Low-Level Link to view a limited set of attributes. The attributes for a selected
ServerNet/FX adapter appear in the attributes pane of each application.
Refer to Monitoring FOX Ring Activity on page 3-3 for detailed information about using
OSM and TSM to monitor attributes.
Event Management Service (EMS)
EMS is a standard Distributed Systems Management (DSM) interface that provides
event collection, logging, and distribution facilities. An event is defined as a significant
occurrence in the subsystem environment on a server, such as the following:
•
An error
•
A change in the subsystem environment
•
A condition that might lead to a problem if not corrected
•
A situation requiring operator intervention
•
A significant loss of functions or resources
•
An indication of why a process terminated
When an event occurs, an event message is generated. An event message contains
information about an event. The event message typically includes the subsystem
reporting the message along with text or tokens describing the event. EMS collects the
event message and writes it to the appropriate log file.

Appendix B, Error Messages
.
OSM Event Viewer and TSM EMS Event Viewer Application
You can use the OSM Event Viewer or the TSM EMS Event Viewer Application to
monitor the EMS event logs, which are files that contain EMS event messages
generated by subsystems on your server. Messages are sent to the following primary
event log files:
•
$0 contains operator, system, and customer event messages.
•
$ZLOG contains service-related event messages, such as hardware messages.
The OSM Event Viewer and the TSM EMS Event Viewer Application retrieve event
information from these logs and allow you to determine how you want to view the
information. For more information, refer to the online help for each application.
Note. The term ServerNet/FX adapter refers to the ServerNet/FX and the ServerNet/FX 2
adapter hardware.
