TSM Online User Guide.
Subsystem Control Facility (SCF)
The SCF interface to the ServerNet/FX adapter subsystem provides several
commands that display information to help you determine the normal operation of your
FOX ring. These commands are outlined in Monitoring FOX Ring Activity on page 3-3.
Identifying Problems
When a problem occurs, usually more than one problem is reported (for example, you
may encounter a file-system error at the same time an event message is reported).
When you begin to identify a problem, it is usually best to determine commonalities
between all the errors reported beginning at the lowest layers (such as FOX links) and
then examining the upper layers (such as applications).
User Complaints
Most troubleshooting begins with user complaints, which can result from either
software or hardware problems. The best approach is always to check the obvious
first. For example:
Were any error messages reported? If so, what are they?
Did the user use the correct syntax when accessing resources through the
network?
Was the complaint subjective (for example, slow response time)? Were the users
expectations reasonable?
Problem-Identification Tools
HP provides the following tools to help you identify a problem with the ServerNet/FX
adapter subsystem:
OSM Service Connection and TSM Service Application
Event Management Service (EMS)
TSM EMS Event Viewer
TSM Notification Director Application
Subsystem Control Facility (SCF)
Except for the TSM Notification Director Application, these are the same tools used to
verify normal subsystem operation. Refer to Collecting Information on page 5-2 for
more information about these tools.
