Glossary-2
customer-replaceable unit (CRU)
customer-replaceable unit (CRU). A subset of field-replaceable units (FRUs) that can be
installed and serviced (replaced) by customers, without using special tools or special
HP training. CRUs can be replaced while the system is running. See also
field-replaceable unit (FRU).
DELETE command. A sensitive SCF command that deletes the configuration records for
the specified object from the system configuration database.
DISCONNECT command. A sensitive SCF command that disconnects a link on a FOX ring
for a specified ServerNet/FX adapter, preventing packets from travelling on that bus in
the specified direction.
Distributed Systems Management (DSM). A set of software tools that facilitates
management of NonStop systems and Expand networks. These tools include the
Subsystem Programmatic Interface (SPI), the Event Management Service (EMS), the
Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) for data communications subsystems, the Distributed
Name Service (DNS), the ViewPoint console application, the DSM Problem Manager
(DSM/PM), the DSM Template Services, and token-oriented programmatic interfaces
to the management processes for various subsystems as well as various tools that
provide management services and assist in the development of management
applications.
EMS. See Event Management Service (EMS).
Event Management Service (EMS). A Distributed Systems Management (DSM) product
that provides event collection, event logging, and event distribution facilities. EMS
provides different event descriptions for interactive and programmatic interfaces, lets
an operator or an application select specific event-message data, and allows for
flexible distribution of event messages within a system or network.
event message. Text intended for a system operator that describes a change in some
condition in the system or network, whether minor or serious. The change of condition
is called an event. Events can be operational errors, notifications of limits exceeded,
requests for actions needed, and so on. See also operator message
.
error. A condition that causes a command or other operation to fail.
error number. For Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) and Subsystem Programmatic
Interface (SPI), a value that can be assigned to a return token, or to the last field of an
error token, to identify an error that occurred. SPI defines a small set of error numbers,
but most error numbers are defined by using SCF subsystems.
Expand-over-FOX line-handler process. An Expand line-handler process that uses the
NETMAN protocol to access the network access method (NAM) interface provided by
the FOX monitor process, $ZZFOX. The Expand-over-FOX line-handler process
handles incoming and outgoing Expand messages and packets going outside a FOX
ring and security-related messages within the ring.
