Glossary-6
network access method
network access method. The interface through which an Expand-over-FOX line-handler
process communicates with the FOX monitor process ($ZZFOX).
nonsensitive command. A command that can be issued by any user or program that is
allowed access to the subsystem—that is, a command on which the subsystem
imposes no further security restrictions. For Subsystem Control Facility (SCF)
subsystems, nonsensitive commands are those that cannot change the state or
configuration of objects; most of them are information commands. Contrast with
sensitive command.
OBEY file. A text file containing a series of commands that you can run by issuing the
OBEY command in TACL or SCF, followed by the name of the text file.
object. (1) One or more of the devices, lines, processes, and files in a HP subsystem; any
entity subject to independent reference or control by one or more subsystems. (2) In
the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF), a resource controlled by an SCF subsystem.
SCF objects include processes, disks, and data communications lines. Each object has
an object type and an object name. See also object name. and object type.
object attribute. See attribute.
object name. A unique name for a Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) object within an SCF
subsystem.
object type. The category of Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) objects to which a specific
SCF object belongs; for example, a specific disk has the object type DISK and a
specific terminal may have the object type SU. An SCF subsystem has a set of object
types for the objects it manages.
Object state. See state.
operator message. A message, intended for an operator, that describes a significant event
on a NonStop system. An operator message is the displayed-text form of an Event
Management Service (EMS) event message. See also event message
.
OSM. See HP NonStop Open System Management (OSM) software
.
output destination. The resource to which Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) sends its
responses to commands. SCF can direct output to a disk file, an application process, a
terminal, or a printer. The initial output destination is determined by the form of the
RUN command used to initiate SCF. The output destination can be changed
dynamically during an SCF session.
packet. A block of information that contains fields for addressing, sequencing of information,
possible priority indicators, and a portion of a message or an entire message.
