ServerNet/FX Adapter Object Types and Names
ServerNet/FX Adapter Object Types and Names
You can manipulate and monitor the ServerNet/FX adapter subsystem through SCF by
entering commands that act on the ServerNet/FX adapter subsystem objects. Each
object has an object type and an object name. The object type categorizes the object.
The object name uniquely identifies each object within the subsystem. The
ServerNet/FX adapter subsystem supports the following four nonhierarchical object
types:
SUBNET (a FOX ring and all attached clusters)
PROCESS (the FOX monitor process, this must be named $ZZFOX)
LBU (a logical interface used to identity a ServerNet/FX adapter)
PATH (a logical interface used to identify a FOX direct logical path)
SUBNET Object
The SUBNET object is a network consisting of 2 to 14 NonStop systems connected by
high-speed fiber-optic cables. Each system in the network is called a cluster, and the
clusters of a physical network are connected in a ring. The ServerNet/FX adapter
subsystem does not use a name for the network. However, to identify the
ServerNet/FX adapter subsystem to SCF, you must use the keyword SUBNET and the
FOX monitor process name ($ZZFOX).
PROCESS Object
The PROCESS object identifies the FOX monitor process and must be named
$ZZFOX. $ZZFOX runs only on NonStop S-series systems that are on the FOX ring.
$ZZFOX controls and monitors the ServerNet/FX adapters, is a named system
process, and has a backup.
The FOX monitor process ($ZZFOX) runs on every FOX cluster on a NonStop S-series
system. Each cluster on a FOX ring must also have one Expand-over-FOX line-handler
process for each of the other clusters on the ring. Thus, on a four-cluster ring, each
cluster has three Expand-over-FOX line-handler processes.
LBU Object
The LBU object refers to the logical interfaces associated with the two ServerNet/FX
adapters, $ZZFOX.#X and $ZZFOX.#Y. Each cluster in a FOX network has two
ServerNet/FX adapters. $ZZFOX.#X connects to the X-ring through the ServerNet
system area network (ServerNet SAN), and $ZZFOX.#Y connects to the Y-ring through
the ServerNet SAN. The ServerNet/FX adapter sends and receives packets over the
FOX ring network in either direction (left or right). The left and right lines connect to
adjoining clusters. The ServerNet/FX adapters are controlled by the FOX monitor
process, $ZZFOX, running in the cluster.
