Planning for FOX Monitor Process
Configuration
The availability of the ServerNet/FX adapter subsystem can be optimized by
coordinating the configured location of the FOX monitor process, FOXMON, with the
physical location of the ServerNet/FX adapters.
The following physical locations of the ServerNet/FX adapters and associated FOX
monitor process configurations are listed in the order of availability provided by the
ServerNet/FX adapter subsystem.
Both ServerNet/FX Adapters in an I/O Enclosure(s)
The ServerNet/FX adapters can be located in the same or separate I/O enclosures.
One ServerNet/FX adapter must be connected to the X-fabric (slot 51 or 53), and the
other ServerNet/FX adapter must be connected to the Y-fabric (slot 52 or 54).
Configure the primary and backup FOX monitor processes in different processor
enclosures. They can both be configured in even or odd numbered processors, or one
in an even numbered processor and the other in an odd numbered processor.
One ServerNet/FX Adapter in an I/O Enclosure, One
ServerNet/FX Adapter in a Processor Enclosure
One ServerNet/FX adapter must be connected to the X-fabric (slot 51 or 53), and the
other ServerNet/FX adapter must be connected to the Y-fabric (slot 52 or 54).
Configure the primary or backup FOX monitor process in the processor that
corresponds to the ServerNet/FX adapter located in the processor enclosure. The
other FOX monitor process should be configured in a separate processor enclosure.
Both ServerNet/FX Adapters in Separate Processor Enclosures
One ServerNet/FX adapter must be connected to the X-fabric (slot 51 or 53), and the
other ServerNet/FX adapter must be connected to the Y-fabric (slot 52 or 54).
Configure the primary and backup FOX monitor processes in the processors that
correspond to the location of the ServerNet/FX adapters. This configuration prevents a
FOX ring from becoming unavailable in the event of a PMF CRU removal.
Note. ServerNet/FX adapters must be installed by a HP-trained service provider. Installation
and routing of fiber-optic cable between system enclosures is the customer’s responsibility.
Some configurations may require special cabling considerations; refer to the ServerNet/FX
Adapter Installation and Support Guide or the ServerNet/FX 2 Adapter Installation and Support
Guide (available in the Hardware Services and Maintenance library of NTL) for additional
information.
