Adding a Cluster to a FOX Ring
Task 6: Create and start the Expand-over-FOX line-handler
processes
Because a FOX ring is configured as a logical, fully connected mesh, you must create
and start an Expand-over-FOX line-handler process on the new cluster for each
remote cluster in the FOX ring. Each remote cluster also requires a corresponding
Expand-over-FOX line-handler process for the new cluster.
Creating an Expand-over-FOX line-handler process on a NonStop S-series system
running the G-series NonStop Kernel operating system is performed online using the
SCF interface to the WAN subsystem. Refer to the Expand Configuration and
Management Manual for detailed information.
Creating an Expand-over-FOX line-handler process on a NonStop K-series system
running the D-series NonStop Kernel operating system is done offline using SYSGEN.
However, if spare Expand-over-FOX line-handler processes were configured at the
remote clusters during initial network configuration, you can avoid a planned outage by
altering them to connect to the new cluster using the Expand subsystem SCF ALTER
PATH command. Refer to the System Generation Manual for Expand for detailed
information.
Task 7: Start the LBUs at the new cluster
To start the LBU for the ServerNet/FX adapter connected to the X-ring, use the
following ServerNet/FX adapter subsystem SCF command:
SCF> START LBU $ZZFOX.#X
To start the LBU for the ServerNet/FX adapter connected to the Y-ring, issue the
following ServerNet/FX adapter subsystem SCF command:
SCF> START LBU $ZZFOX.#Y
Task 8: Start the Expand-over-FOX lines
Use the Expand subsystem SCF START LINE command to start the Expand-over-FOX
lines on the NonStop S-series server. You must also start the Expand-over-FOX lines
you created on the other servers in the FOX ring.
The command syntax for the SCF START LINE command is
device-name
is the device name of an Expand-over-FOX line-handler process.
Refer to the Expand Configuration and Management Manual for more information
about starting Expand lines.
START LINE $device-name
