PMF CRU Replacement
Procedures for Preparing ServerNet/FX Adapters for PMF CRU
Replacement
When a PMF CRU will be replaced in a NonStop S-series system that is part of a FOX
ring, the location of the ServerNet/FX adapters determines the procedure to be
performed to ensure continued connectivity with the X or Y ServerNet fabric associated
with the PMF CRU being replaced. The procedures are as follows:
ServerNet/FX adapters located in a different enclosure than the PMF CRU being
replaced
ServerNet/FX adapters located in the same enclosure as the PMF CRU being
replaced
ServerNet/FX adapters located in an I/O enclosure that is connected to and on the
same ServerNet fabric as the PMF CRU being replaced
ServerNet/FX adapters located in a different enclosure than
the PMF CRU being replaced
If the PMF CRU to be replaced is located in an enclosure that does not contain
ServerNet/FX adapters, perform the following tasks:
Task 1: Verify where the primary FOX monitor process is running
To verify where the primary FOX monitor process is running, issue the following
ServerNet/FX adapter subsystem SCF command:
SCF> INFO PROCESS $ZZFOX
The following shows an example of a ServerNet/FX adapter subsystem SCF INFO
PROCESS command.
WARNING. If a PMF CRU is pulled from an enclosure where the primary FOX monitor process
is running, the system will lose complete connectivity with the X or Y ServerNet/FX adapter
associated with that PMF CRU.
Note. The instructions in this subsection assume two or more enclosures, that the system is
running, and that the PMF CRU to be replaced is communicating with the other enclosures. If
the PMF CRU has partially or completely failed, you must determine whether any non-fault-
tolerant processes can be preserved by preparing the surviving affected adapters.
