SNAX Connection Manager (SNAX/CM) Manual
Glossary
097842 Tandem Computers Incorporated Glossary–7
SNA session. The creation of a temporary data path consisting of a physical and a
logical connection between two LUs in separate domains for information exchange.
To establish a data path between two LUs in separate domains for data exchange, four
types of sessions must exist: SSCP-SSCP, SSCP-PU, SSCP-LU, and LU-LU.
SNAX Connection Manager (SNAX/CM). A subsystem that provides an interface point to
control switched connections with remote devices using SNAX/XF lines over X.25
lines. Users can issue SNAX/CM commands either from a terminal or from an
application to connect calls, allow incoming calls, monitor calls, and disconnect calls.
SNAX Extended Facility (SNAX/XF). A Tandem software product that enables a Tandem
NonStop system to communicate with directly attached SNA devices and directly
attached SNA hosts.
SNAX/CM. See SNAX Connection Manager.
SNAX/CM server. A running, named process that is identified by name in a CONNECT
or ENABLE message issued to SXCMGR. The file on the C30.09 and D10 SUT named
SXCMSV is a Tandem-provided example of a connection manager server.
SNAX/XF. See SNAX Extended Facility.
source address (SA). The address of the MAC SAP from which the MAC frame
originated.
source service access point (SSAP). The address of the Link Service Access Point from
which the LPDU originated.
SPI. See Subsystem Programmatic Interface.
SSCP. System services control point.
station. A network node. See also Ring Station and Link Station.
subsystem. A process or collection of processes that give users access to a set of related
resources or services. A subsystem typically controls a cohesive set of objects.
Subsystem Control Facility (SCF). A Tandem interface product that allows users to
configure, control, and examine the status and configuration of selected Tandem data
communications subsystems.
Subsystem Control Point (SCP). A process that receives and redistributes Subsystem
Programmatic Interface messages to targeted data communications subsystems.
Subsystem Programmatic Interface (SPI). Part of the DSM family of software products. A
standard set of programmatic message formats and protocols that can be used to
exchange event information and commands between various subsystems and user-
written or Tandem-written processes.
SUT. See site update tape.
SVC. Switched virtual circuit.
switched. A description given to a communications line that is not permanent, where
either end-point of the line may be easily changed.
