SNAX Connection Manager (SNAX/CM) Manual
2 Configuring SNAX/CM
097842 Tandem Computers Incorporated 2–1
This section describes how to configure SNAX/XF lines to be used by SNAX
Connection Manager (SNAX/CM) for both X.25 and Token-Ring networks. For more
general information about configuring SNAX/XF switched lines and alternate
methods of Tandem’s implementation of the Token-Ring architecture, see the
SNAX/XF Configuration and Control Manual.
Configuring the
Network
Underlying the connection management environment is a SNAX/XF network. Before
using SNAX/CM, you must first add the necessary lines, subdevices, SNAX/XF lines,
PUs, and LUs for the communications interfaces you are using.
In SNAX/CM, access to a network is made by specifying a port in a SNAX/CM
command. A port is a unique name used to identify and access an X25AM line
handler subdevice or a particular TLAM line handler object (session) for a Token-Ring
network. SNAX/CM controls each port independently and supports the connection of
one switched PU for each port.
After the SNAX/XF network is configured and started, you can use SNAX/CM and its
associated processes to connect and disconnect different lines and PUs.
One SNAX/CM process can handle a maximum of 256 active connections. The total
connections include successful responses to SNAX/CM ENABLE commands, as well
as successful and in-process SNAX/CM CONNECT commands. (SNAX/CM
commands are described in Section 3 of this manual.)
System Generation
Considerations
The following SYSGEN line attributes are used when configuring the network for
SNAX/XF switched lines managed by SNAX/CM:
CONNECTAPPL applname, CONNECTAPPLANY, or NOCONNECTAPPL
DIALIN, DIALINOUT, or DIALOUT
MAXPUS
Whether specified or omitted during the SYSGEN operation, these attributes may be
changed by using the SCF ADD LINE and SCF ALTER LINE commands.
Note The ASSOCIATESUBDEV attribute should not be specified during system generation when using
SNAX/CM with multiple ports. The ASSOCIATESUBDEV attribute is used for backwards compatibility
when only one PU per line is used. To add PUs, use either use SCF or the SNAX/CM ENABLE or
CONNECT commands.
