SNAX Creator-2 Configuration and Control Manual

Glossary
Glossary–2 117143 SNAX Creator-2 Configuration and Control Manual
command. A demand for action by a subsystem. A command is typically conveyed as
an interprocess message from an application to a subsystem.
configuration database. A file where information you enter through SCF is stored. This
information includes object names, object states, and attributes. Each SNAX Creator-2
subsystem is associated with a specific configuration database.
CONNECTION object type. A nonconfigurable object type that represents an active
connection between the SNAX Creator-2 subsystem and the access method SU. The
CONNECTION object type is subordinate to the SU object type.
Creator. See SNAX Creator.
Creator-2. See SNAX Creator-2.
Distributed Systems Management (DSM). A set of products that supports integrated
management of system and network resources and operations.
DSM. See Distributed Systems Management (DSM).
EMS. See Event Management Service (EMS).
EMS[-n]. An attribute for SUBSYS objects. It is the same as the COLLECTOR[-n]
attribute, where n can be 1, 2, or 3.
ENTRY object type. An object type in SNAX Creator-2. Each ENTRY object has a name
and is associated with a text string. When you reference an ENTRY object in an
expression, the associated text string is substituted.
Enhanced System Services (ESS) table. Similar to IBM’s USS tables, a configuration table
used by SNAX/XF with additional functionality that allows a system programmer to
set up a particular SNA configuration.
ESS table. See Enhanced System Services (ESS) table.
Event Management Service (EMS). A DSM service that is responsible for collecting and
logging all events generated by subsystems.
Expand network. A network of up to 255 Tandem NonStop systems, interconnected
using the Expand network operating software. Tandem NonStop systems on an
Expand network are referred to as nodes.
expression. A string consisting of one or more of the following: (1) literal characters,
(2) references to entries, and (3) built-in functions. You can enter expressions as the
values of attributes in SCF commands.
extended logon facility (XLF). A configuration of SNAX/APN that allows communication
between 3270 devices in an SNA subarea network and Tandem applications. In
addition to SNAX/APN, this configuration requires the Tandem Logon Manager for
IBM Systems (ILOGMGR) and SNAX Creator-2.
host. In an SNA network, the processing unit that contains a subsystem services
control point (SSCP); typically, an IBM mainframe running VTAM. A Tandem
NonStop system running SNAX/XF acts as a host to attached SNA devices.
ILOGMGR. See Tandem Logon Manager for IBM Systems.
