SNAX Creator-2 Configuration and Control Manual

1 Introduction to SCF for
SNAX Creator-2
117143 SNAX Creator-2 Configuration and Control Manual 1–1
This manual describes the subsystem-specific details for using the Subsystem Control
Facility (SCF) interactive interface to configure and control the SNAX Creator-2
subsystem.
This section introduces:
The SNAX Creator-2 subsystem
The SCF interface to the SNAX Creator-2 subsystem
Tandem’s Distributed Systems Management (DSM)
The Subsystem Control Facility (SCF)
Although the operating system views SNAX Creator-2 as a process, SCF views
SNAX Creator-2 as a subsystem. Throughout this manual, therefore, SNAX Creator-2
is usually referred to as the SNAX Creator-2 subsystem.
SNAX Creator-2 When a user at an SNA terminal requests logon to a Tandem application, the request is
forwarded to a Tandem access method, for example SNAX/XF or SNAX/APN.
However, within the Tandem environment, there is no standard way for access
methods to initiate applications directly. SNAX Creator-2 provides this service for
access methods such as SNAX/XF and SNAX/APN.
SNAX Creator-2 With
SNAX/XF
Figure 1-1 (a) illustrates the use of the SNAX Creator-2 subsystem with SNAX/XF.
When an SNA terminal attached to the Tandem system requests logon to a Tandem
application, the access method (SNAX/XF) requests SNAX Creator-2 to initiate the
application.
SNAX Creator-2 With
SNAX/APN
With the extended logon facility (XLF) of SNAX/APN, terminals in an SNA network
can request logon to Tandem applications. Figure 1-1 (b) illustrates the use of the
SNAX Creator-2 subsystem with SNAX/APN. When a 3270-type terminal requests
logon to a Tandem application, the request is received by the Tandem Logon Manager
for IBM Systems (ILOGMGR). ILOGMGR forwards the request to the Tandem
access method (SNAX/APN), which requests SNAX Creator-2 to initiate the
application.
